Agriculture & Livestock
Healthy livestock is the backbone of a profitable farm. At Alexander’s, we provide 100% natural Himalayan Rock Salt licks that serve as essential mineral supplements for cattle, horses, sheep, and deer.
Unlike pressed commercial blocks which often contain chemical hardeners and sweeteners, our salt is mined directly from dense rock seams. It provides a pure source of sodium and electrolytes, crucial for maintaining fluid balance, nerve function, and strong production yields in dairy and meat livestock.
Essential Mineral Nutrition
Animals have a natural craving for salt, but they need more than just sodium. Our pink salt licks naturally contain 84+ trace minerals, including Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium, which are often missing from standard forage
- Boosts Production: Essential for improving milk yields and reproductive health
- Reduces Stress: Licking behavior naturally calms horses and reduces boredom in stalls.
- 100% Organic: Free from anti-caking agents, bleaching, or artificial binding glues.
- Digestive Aid: Balances pH levels in the stomach to improve feed efficiency.
Weather-Resistant Durability
Farmers know that rain destroys pressed salt blocks. Alexander’s Rock Salt Licks are stone-hard and dense, making them naturally weather-resistant. They can be left out in open pastures without dissolving rapidly in the rain or crumbling under rough use.
- Extended Lifespan: Lasts 3x longer than compressed salt dust blocks.
- Safe Design: Hand-carved with smooth edges to prevent tongue abrasions.
- Versatile Mounting: Available with natural hemp ropes for hanging or as loose rocks for troughs.
- Cost-Effective: Less waste means better value for your herd management budget.
Choosing the Right Format
We offer different formats to suit your feeding setup. For stabled horses, our Rope-On Licks (1kg – 5kg) are ideal for hanging from fences to keep the salt off the ground. For large cattle herds, we recommend our Jumbo Lumps (10kg – 25kg), which can be placed directly in feeding troughs or pastures.
Not sure which grade is best for your animals? Our team can guide you on the mineral density and size best suited for your specific livestock species.
Frequently asked questions
Are these salt licks safe for horses?
Yes. They are actually safer than pressed blocks. Because the rock is so hard, horses cannot bite off large chunks, preventing the risk of over-consumption or choking. They are 100% safe for equines, bovines, and ovines
Do salt licks have an expiration date?
No. Himalayan salt has remained pure for millions of years. As long as it is stored in a dry place before use, it has an indefinite shelf life
How do you ship bulk orders for farms?
We supply large-scale agricultural operations with palletized shipping. We can provide mixed pallets of rope-licks and bulk lumps, shrink-wrapped and secured for safe transport to your farm or distribution center
What is the difference between the Dark Pink and White licks?
Dark Pink licks have a higher iron content, which is excellent for blood health. White or Light Pink licks have a milder mineral profile. Both offer the same high-quality sodium content essential for hydration.
